Undoing Recent Changes in FTM 2024

With Family Tree Maker’s Turn Back Time feature, you can easily undo mistakes in your tree without having to manually backtrack through all your changes. This feature can keep track of your last 5,000 actions, including extensive changes like merging trees, allowing you to revert your tree to its previous

state with a simple click. Plus, Turn Back Time works even if you’ve closed and reopened your tree since making the changes.

Tip: It’s still a good idea to back up your tree regularly whether it’s on your hard drive or saved through TreeVault.

  1. Go to the Current Tree tab on the Plan workspace.
  2. Click the Change Log tab. Family Tree Maker displays an ordered list of the most recent changes you’ve made to your tree. You can move the Change Log Size slider to determine the number of changes that can be included in the log.

Tip: You can create a PDF or print the list by clicking the Print Change Log button at the top of the tab. If this is your antenna tree, a copy of this change log is kept in TreeVault.

  3. If an action involves multiple changes, like a tree sync, it’s labeled with an information icon. You can click the icon to view and/or print a full list of the affected items.

  4. The list is initially sorted by date, but you can pinpoint the specific mistake you made using these options:

    • Sort and group the list by items that were changed. Click By Date pop-up menu and choose By Object. You can then click the arrow next to an item to see a list of all the changes that were made.

    • Limit the list by items that were changed. Click the All Records pop-up menu and select whether you want to only view changes made to people, media items, or sources.
    • Limit the list by the type of change. Click the All Changes pop-up menu and select whether you want to only view additions, edits, or deletions.
    1. Select a change in the list.
    2. Do one of the following:
      • If you want to fix a change you made to a specific person, media item, or source, click Go To. Family Tree Maker will display the associated person or record, allowing you to manually make any necessary corrections or changes.
      • To revert your tree to the state before you took the selected action (and delete all subsequent changes), click Roll Back Changes. Continue with the next step.
    3. Review all the actions in your tree that are about to be undone.

    8. Before making any major changes to your tree, it’s best to create a backup. Select the Backup your tree checkbox; then click Roll Back Changes.
