How do I restore a file from a backup in Family Tree Maker?

 Before restoring your file

Before restoring your file, please:

  • Disable any anti-virus software you may be using.
  • If your backup file has been copied to a CD or other removable media, copy it back to your hard drive before proceeding with the restoration process.

 Restoring your file

1. In the File menu select Restore option.

2. From the Choose File to Restore window, browse to the location of the backup file, highlight it, and then click Open.

3. Choose a name for the restored file then click Save.

The file will be restored.

 Restoring a linked tree

1. In the File menu select Restore option.

2. Use the Choose file to Restore window to locate and select your backup file and click Open.

3. In the Name For Restored File window select location and click Save to restore your file.

4. After your file is restored you will have a Restore Options window open up. Select Restore sync files to link this new tree to your Ancestry tree and click OK.

5. Once your tree is re-linked click on the Sync Status icon in the upper right and select Sync Now to verify that your new tree is in sync with Ancestry.
