Moving or Resizing a picture in Smart Stories in Family Tree Maker 2012-2014

Answer ID 5471
Can I move or resize a picture in a Smart Story in Family Tree Maker 2012-2014?

Once you have created a Smart Story and inserted a picture into it you may also find that you want to move the photo to a new spot or to resize it. You are able to both move and resize the pictures that you enter in a Smart Story.

This article discusses the following:

How to move a picture in a Smart Story

  1. To move a picture that you have inserted into a Smart Story you will need to click on the photo in the Smart Story. This will give you some boxes around the edge of the photo that will be discussed further in the section about resizing the picture. Your mouse will now have changed to a crosshair with arrows in the four directions.

  2. You can now click and drag the picture to a new location in the Smart Story.

How to resize a picture in a Smart Story

  1. To resize the picture that you have in the Smart Story, you will need to click on the picture in the Smart Story again. See step one in the instructions above.
  2. You can then click and drag on one of the boxes at the edge of the photo to either increase or decrease the photo.

  3. While you can click on any of the boxes to resize the picture, it will keep the proportions of the original picture. This means that you will not have to worry about the picture being distorted in the story.

Note: When moving or resizing the picture in the Smart Story you will want to be careful not to move it off of the edge of the page or expand the picture larger than the margins of the page. This can cause the picture to move to a new page.
