Entering a Note from the Person Tab
- Click the People button on the main toolbar.
- Make sure the individual you want to enter a note for is displayed.
- Click the Person tab.
- Click the Notes tab (if necessary).
- Select either a Person note or a Research note by clicking the appropriate button in the Notes toolbar.
Note: If you do not the full bottom panel displayed pleased select the icon to open the entire bottom panel.
- Enter the text you want to include for the individual. The text will automatically be saved.
Entering a Note from the Family Tab
- Click the People button on the main toolbar
- Make sure the individual you want to enter a note for is displayed.
- Click the Person tab.
Note: In Family Tree Maker 2014 the Family tab was renamed to the Tree tab.
- Click the Notes icon underneath the person’s name in the far right panel.
- Select either aResearch note or a Person note by clicking the appropriate button below the main Notes icon.
- Enter the text you want to include for the individual in the window that appears after you make your selection. Once your note is complete click OK .
Entering a Fact Note
- Click the People button on the main toolbar.
- Make sure the individual you want to enter a note for is selected.
- Click the Person tab.
- Make sure that the fact for which you want to enter a note is selected in the list of individual and shared facts. In this example, we’ll be entering a note for a name fact.
- In the far right panel under the individual’s name, click the Options button and select Show Fact Notes .
- Enter the text you want to include for the individual. Your note will automatically be saved once you have finished.
Making a Note Private
After entering a note, click the Mark as private button. You can tell the note has been marked as private because the lock icon has a yellow box around it.
Spell Checking a Note
- After entering a note, click the Spell Check button.
The Spell Check window opens and begins checking the note for spelling errors. If Family Tree Maker detects a potential spelling error, it displays the word in the Not in Dictionary field.
- Correct or ignore the word using the Spell Check buttons. When a dialog box tells you that the spell check is complete, click OK .
Note: If you close the Spell Check window before the program has checked the entire note, your spell check changes will not be saved.
