What is the Customize View button and how do I use it?

The Customize View button is used to allow you to easily add more facts to the people in your tree. You can also use this button to add custom facts that are not in the program by default.

There are many useful facts that are available in Family Tree Maker that may not be apparent when you first open the program. You may add these facts by following the steps listed below.

Adding a new custom fact

  1. Go to the People workspace in Family Tree Maker and be sure that you are on the Tree tab (shown as the Family tab in older versions).

  10. You may also want to adjust the Fact options (shown as Fact elements in older versions) that you would like for this fact. Selecting Date / Place will only show the date and location. Selecting Date / Place / Description will add your description if you’ve made one. If you would like to enter only a description to the fact select the Description only option. If you would like this fact to be private then select the Private by default option (only available in Family Tree Maker 2012 and 2014).
