Turning hints on or off in Family Tree Maker

Family Tree Maker can take the information you have put in your tree and use it to search Ancestry’s most popular databases for matches. When we find a good match, you will see a small green leaf in the corner of the person’s profile, called a Hint. Turning Hints off can help increase the speed of your program if you are experiencing slowness.

Turn Hints off in Family Tree Maker 2008-2014

1. Click Tools, and then select “Options”.

   

2. Search online automatically when connected to the Internet to turn all hints on or off.

1. Click on the Family Tree Maker menu, and then select “Preferences”.

   

2. Check the checkbox next to Search online automatically when connected to the Internet to turn all hints on or off.
