How do I give Family Tree Maker admin-level access on Windows?
User Account Control (UAC) is a feature of Windows that can help you stay in control of your computer by informing you when a program makes a change that requires administrator-level permission. If Family Tree Maker does not have admin-level access it may not be possible to perform certain actions such as applying program updates.

How to give Family Tree Maker Temporary Admin-level Access
- Right-click your Family Tree Maker icon on your desktop.
- Choose Run as administrator from the menu that appears.
Family Tree Maker will now start with admin-level access. This access level is removed once Family Tree Maker is closed.
How to give Family Tree Maker Permanent Admin-level Access
- Right-click the Family Tree Maker icon on your desktop and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
- Select the Compatibility tab.
- Check the Run this program as an administrator box, then click OK.
Admin-level access will be given to Family Tree Maker every time it is launched.
