How to Give Family Tree Maker Administrator Privileges

How do I give Family Tree Maker admin-level access on Windows?

User Account Control (UAC) is a feature of Windows that can help you stay in control of your computer by informing you when a program makes a change that requires administrator-level permission. If Family Tree Maker does not have admin-level access it may not be possible to perform certain actions such as applying program updates.

If you want to run Family Tree Maker with administrative-level access, please use the processes outlined below.

  • Temporary Admin-level Access
  • Permanent Admin-level Access

How to give Family Tree Maker Temporary Admin-level Access

  1. Right-click your Family Tree Maker icon on your desktop.
  2. Choose Run as administrator from the menu that appears.

Family Tree Maker will now start with admin-level access. This access level is removed once Family Tree Maker is closed.

How to give Family Tree Maker Permanent Admin-level Access

  1. Right-click the Family Tree Maker icon on your desktop and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
  2. Select the Compatibility tab.
  3. Check the Run this program as an administrator box, then click OK.

Admin-level access will be given to Family Tree Maker every time it is launched.
