What's New in the FTM 2019 24.1 Update

WHAT'S NEW IN THE VERSION 24.1 UPDATE

OVERVIEW AND GENERAL CHANGES

This important new build provides not just significant fixes, greater stability, and improved performance in many areas, but also a few exciting new features that we hope you will like as much as we do. For instance, in TreeVault Cloud Services you now have the opportunity to add your media collection to your Antenna tree to keep it safely stored for the future in case you ever need to restore your tree or want to pass it on to the next generation. There are also Historical Weather Sentences that you can add to your Smart Stories and books to paint a more detailed picture of the days your ancestors lived through. And you can only benefit from the convenience of linking multiple people to a media item, viewing detailed lists of your changes in the Change Log, and quite a bit more.

NEW IN TREEVAULT CLOUD SERVICES

  • Media for Emergency Restore. Media collection from your Source tree can be included to Antenna tree. It can then be used with the Emergency Tree restore and Next of Kin services.
  • Smart Weather Sentences™ using our Historical Weather® database. All that fascinating historical weather data can now be automatically added to your Smart Stories with just a single checkbox. And not just dry facts but reader-friendly descriptions of conditions on a particular day.

OTHER NEW FEATURES

  • Detailed Change Log. Now it’s possible to see all the details of bulk operations like syncing, Web Merge, and others, right in the Change Log.
  • Sync cropped profile pictures with Ancestry. Profile pictures cropped in FTM 2019 can now be synced with Ancestry and vice versa.
  • Link multiple people to a media item. The ability to link a media item to more than one person at a time has been added, including easy linking to an individual’s family.
  • Face detection and auto zoom. Face detection of multiple faces on a photo for a profile picture is made possible with the Auto Zoom button, as well as auto zooming by clicking on a face.
  • Default workspace. We’ve added a new option to the application preferences that lets users choose where their trees will open.

VERSION 24.1 - WINDOWS

WEB SEARCH / ANCESTRY

  • Ancestry login issue fixed. We’ve fixed a problem that blocked the Ancestry Sign-In window for some users.
  • More reliable sync with Ancestry. The most frequently reported sync interruption errors have been fixed.
  • Source citation links to facts. Source citation links to facts are now synced to Ancestry for all individuals without exception.
  • Preferred parents issue fixed. The “Preferred parents” relationship is now synced with the FTM tree when it has been changed on Ancestry.
  • Private names stay private after syncing if interrupted sync happened before. All names marked as private now remain private after syncing with or uploading a tree to Ancestry.
  • Searching and merging of records. We’ve resolved issues that prevented search result details from loading and the merging of records when working with certain collections, including new format census and Newspapers.com records.
  • Preview of an image at Ancestry.com fixed. Now, when you click on an image from any Ancestry record inside the Web Search workspace, it is opened correctly, without showing a blank page.
  • Merging of source citations fixed. An issue where source citations were not merged into the tree from Historical Records when using Web Merge has been fixed.
  • Ignore Hint issue fixed. The Ignore Hint button for Ancestry hints now works correctly, including when the tree is not synced.
  • Ancestry messages access fixed. Messages from the Messages menu (accessed via the Ancestry tree button on the Plan Workspace) now open correctly.
  • Vital facts duplication resolved. Vital facts are no longer duplicated after you add them to a person and then switch to the Web Search workspace for the first time.

FAMILYSEARCH

  • High security connection to FamilySearch. We’ve upgraded the FTM 2019 connection to FamilySearch, applying the same technology we use to connect you to Ancestry. This ensures a secure connection for getting hints, searching and merging records from FamilySearch.
  • Source structure compatibility greatly improved. Sources and source citations downloaded from FamilySearch now merge more reliably and without duplicates into the right FTM 2019 fields.
  • Download of large branches. An issue has been fixed where an attempt to download a large branch of the FamilySearch Family Tree led to a jump in system memory usage which sometimes resulted a crash.
  • Matching people with FamilySearch issues fixed. All buttons now work correctly when matching a person in your tree with a person in the FamilySearch tree, and hint results appear without a long delay.

INDEX

  • Smart Filter color coding performance improved. Color coding applied to a large number of people using a Smart Filter now appears without delay, including for trees uploaded to TreeVault.
  • Improved hints performance. Ancestry and FamilySearch hints now appear in the Index just a few seconds after login to the respective sites.

  • Ancestry Citation Media downloading when syncing changes from Ancestry. Citation Media now syncs much faster from Ancestry into a FTM Source tree that is linked to an Antenna tree in TreeVault.
  • Media linking issue fixed. When working with source citations, media linked to a person now remains linked only to that person and not to their source citation and all people linked to that citation.
  • Profile picture media issue fixed. An issue has been fixed where a profile picture would not be added and the selected media file deleted if the image was already present in the tree and the “Do not copy files” option was turned on.

GEDCOM

  • Media merge issue fixed. Media is no longer duplicated in an FTM tree after merging with a GEDCOM file containing the same media.
