Applying Color Coding to a Specific Family Line
Most people use color coding to highlight the different branches of their family tree. Family Tree Maker lets you assign a specific color to all ancestors (or descendants) of a particular individual.
1. Go to the Tree tab on the People workspace.
2. Select the person whose ancestors and/or descendants you want to apply a color to. For example, if you want to apply a specific color to your paternal grandfather’s line, select your father’s father. If you want to use the four-color system for your family, select yourself.
3. Click the Color Coding button underneath the main toolbar.
4. Do one of these options:
• If you want to color code all the ancestors of the selected individual, click a color in “All Ancestors (1 color).”
• If you want to color code all the descendants of the selected individual, click a color in “All Descendants.”
• If you want to color code all four ancestral lines for an individual, click a color scheme in “All Ancestors (4 colors).”
