Migration Maps in FTM 2017 for Windows

How do I view a migration map for people in Family Tree Maker?

To view a map showing the migration of your ancestor, please do the following:

  1. Click the Places button on the main toolbar.

  2. In the panel on the left side of the Places screen, choose Person from the List by drop-down menu.

    Note: If the People panel is not visible, you will need to click the Image button under the Places tab to expand the panel. >/p>

  3. Click the name of the person in the list on the left whose locations you want to see.

  4. The map in the center display area will show location pinpoints for your selected individual.

  5. To the right is a list of the facts you've entered for your individual, and the places associated with them. Clicking the check-box next to a fact will include or exclude the location of that event in the migration map.

  6. Hovering your mouse curser over a marker in the map will open up a detail box with the location's name and the fact associated with it.

  7. You can also choose to view the information for family members and ancestors in the map at the same time. In the right-hand Detail panel of the individual, click on the second icon to display the information for the immediate family of your selected individual.

  8. Additionally, clicking on the third icon will allow you to include the information for up to 4 generations of ancestors for your selected person.

  9. You can change the color of the lines in the map for your individuals by first selecting a person in the list on the right and then clicking on the line color icons above to pick a new color.

  10. When you are displaying multiple individuals in your list on the right you can choose to sort the list by clicking on the circulating arrows icon and choosing one of the 5 options available.
