Compacting a File in Family Tree Maker for Mac 3.1 and Earlier

How do I compact a file in Family Tree Maker for Mac 3.1 or earlier?

While it is possible to compact a file that is open in Family Tree Maker, for best results you should make sure the file is closed before you start.

1. If your tree file is open, close it by choosing Close Window from the File menu.

2. Choose Compact File from the Tools menu.

3. In the dialog that opens, navigate to the file you want to compact, select it, and click the Choose button.

4. In the next dialog that appears, click the Compact button.

5. The file will be compacted. Once the process is complete, a message will appear telling you by how much the file size has been reduced. Click OK

6. Repeat steps 2–5 until the message in step 5 tells you that the file size has been reduced by 0.00%, or as close as you can get to it.
