Sync Troubleshooting Guide for FTM 2019

We have prepared this Sync Troubleshooting Guide for FTM 2019 to present you with common scenarios that you may encounter in FTM 2019 while using sync, with step-by-step instructions on how to resolve them.  To get started, please review the General Advice and list of scenarios to see which closely matches your experience.

GENERAL ADVICE

  1. The very first step to try in case of a sync failure, applicable for all scenarios, is simply to try again.
  2. Do not make any changes to the online Ancestry tree (in your web browser) while Upload/Download/Sync is in progress in Family Tree Maker. Please note that people you invited to edit your Ancestry online tree may also make changes while you sync.
  3. If Upload/Download/Sync fails a few times in a row - consider trying again during off-peak hours (such as early in the morning) when fewer users are actively syncing to Ancestry.
  4. If none of the sync troubleshooting instructions help feel free to contact our Live Chat (click here).
