When you receive a Family Tree Maker invitation email, it means that your relative or friend has created a family tree with the Family Tree Maker desktop application and would like to share it with you. You are just two easy steps away from being able to open, view, and comment on their family tree on your smartphone or tablet. All you need to do is install the free Family Tree Maker Connect app on your device and create a free guest account.
If you already have Family Tree Maker Connect installed on your device, you can go straight to “Step 2: Create a Free Guest Account” below.
And if you already have the app and have created an account using the same email address that your invitation was sent to, then just make sure you are logged in, open the invitation email on your device, and tap Accept Invitation—the tree will start downloading and open automatically in FTM Connect.
Note: If you are a TreeVault subscriber and your TreeVault account uses the same email address as the one your invitation was sent to, just log in to that account. If your TreeVault account uses a different email address, you will need to create a new guest account using the second email address to view the shared tree.
Here's what you need to do to view a tree as a guest in FTM Connect:

Step 1: Install Family Tree Maker Connect
1. On your mobile device, open the invitation email you have received and tap the Accept Invitation button.
2. On the webpage that opens, tap the App Store (for iOS and iPadOS) or Google Play (for Android) button to go to the Family Tree Maker Connect app in the corresponding store.
Alternatively, you can tap here to go to the app in the App Store or tap here for Google Play. Or just open the store on your device and type “FTM Connect” in the search field.
3. Tap Get or Install to download the app, and then tap Open.
Step 2: Create a Free Guest Account
1. With Family Tree Maker Connect open at the login screen, tap Create Guest Account.
2. Enter your first and last name, your email address (this must be the same address to which your invitation email was sent), and select your country of residence. Then tap Next.
3. Enter a password that you'll use for logging in to your guest account, and then confirm the password by retyping it. Tap Next.
4. Tap the blue link to read the Family Tree Maker Cloud Terms and Conditions and indicate you agree to them by tapping the switch. You can also indicate whether you would like to receive Family Tree Maker news and announcements by email.
5. Tap Create Account.
You are logged in to your account as soon as it is created. The tree you have been invited to view starts to download and opens automatically in Family Tree Maker Connect. You can now set out to explore the family history.
Note: If the tree doesn’t download and open automatically, tap Trees at the bottom left of the screen, and then tap the tree name in the Invited Trees list.
Once you have opened the tree on your device, you will still be able to view it even if you go offline. And when you’re online, the tree will be updated in real time with any additions or changes that the tree owner makes to it.
