Using the Find Missing Media Tool in FTM for Mac

If you move a media item on your computer, Family Tree Maker® won’t be able to open it, and you’ll see a red link on the Media workspace saying that the file cannot be found. Family Tree Maker has a tool that can relink all your missing media items at once.

Note: The Find Missing Media tool can only find media that has been moved. If the media item has been renamed or deleted, Family Tree Maker will not be able to find the file.

  1. Click the Media button on the main toolbar to open the Media workspace.

  2. A list of missing media that cannot be found using the current links in your tree will appear.

  3. Select the checkboxes next to the items you want to look for. You can click Select All to select all items in the list.

  4. Click Search.
If Family Tree Maker is able to find the file, its current location is displayed in the Path column and a checkmark appears in the Status column. If Family Tree Maker isn’t able to find the file, its path will remain listed as “unknown” and there will be no checkmark in the Status column. You will need to click the item and search for it manually.

  5. When you’re finished, click OK.
