Running the FTM 2017 23.3 Updater

Once you've downloaded the free updater for FTM 2017, you may want help to make sure you're using it properly.  If so, please refer to these steps, that should match what you see on-screen.

RUNNING THE WINDOWS FTM 2017 UPDATER

File name: FTM2017Update.exe
Size: 237,015,488 bytes (237 MB on disk)

  1. Please make sure you have either FTM 2017 23.0, 23.1 or 23.2 installed on your computer first - the updater will look for it before running.  Click here if you need a replacement copy.
     
  2. Also, make sure you've downloaded the 23.3 update itself - click here if you need instructions.
     
  3. Double-click the downloaded updater.  You may see a Windows system message asking for your approval, and after you give it, you should see a screen confirming whether you have made backups:


     
  4. Once you've confirmed that you've made backups, you'll be guided through the FTM 2017 Setup Wizard.  Simply follow the on-screen prompts, as you see in this example:








     
  5. After you've clicked Finish, you should be all set.  To confirm that the update was applied successfully, open up FTM 2017, go to the Help menu, and click About.  You should see both the version and build numbers updated to version 23.3 build 570.

     

 

RUNNING THE MAC FTM 2017 UPDATER

File name: FTM2017Update.dmg
Size: 278,662,710 bytes (278.7 MB on disk)

  1. Please make sure you have either FTM 2017 23.0, 23.1 or 23.2 installed on your computer first - the updater will look for it before running.  Click here if you need a replacement copy.
     
  2. Also, make sure you've downloaded the 23.3 update itself - click here if you need instructions.
     
  3. Double-click the downloaded updater.  In the Family Tree Maker 2017 Updater window that opens, double-click on the Family Tree Maker 2017.pkg icon (it looks like a cardboard box):


     
  4. You will now be guided through the Family Tree Maker 2017 Installer.  Simply follow the on-screen prompts, as you see in this example:















    *NOTE: If you plan on copying the downloaded installer to update FTM 2017 on another computer, or want to save a copy in case you need to reinstall in the future, select Keep instead of Move to Trash in this last step.
     
  5. After you've finished going through these screens, you should be all set.  To confirm that the update was applied successfully, open up FTM 2017, go to the Family Tree Maker 2017 menu, and click About.  You should see both the version and build numbers updated to version 23.3 build 570

 

 

TROUBLESHOOTING

WINDOWS ERROR MESSAGES

  1. Cannot install. Family Tree Maker 2017 required.   - Make sure that FTM 2017 is installed on your computer.  If it is, uninstall and reinstall FTM 2017, then run the updater again.


     
  2. You're up to date!  - Likely you've already successfully applied the 23.3 update.  Please go to the Help menu, click About, and confirm that it is version 23.3 build 570.


     
  3. File in Use  - Make sure the option for Close the applications and attempt to restart them. is selected, then click OK to continue with the update.

MAC ERROR MESSAGES

  1. Cannot find Family Tree Maker 2017 on your computer  - Make sure that FTM 2017 is installed on your computer.  If it is, uninstall and reinstall FTM 2017, then run the updater again.  You can click on Go to Replacement Center if you need a new download for FTM 2017.


     
  2. You're up to date! - Likely you've already successfully applied the 23.3 update.  Please go to the Family Tree Maker 2017 menu, click About, and confirm that it is version 23.3 build 570.


     
  3. Family Tree Maker 2017 must be closed before the software can be installed.  - Please click the blue Close Application and Install button to continue with the update.


     
  4. To continue installing the software you must agree to the terms of the software license agreement.  - You must click Agree to accept the terms of the software license agreement and continue with the update.
