WHAT'S NEW IN THE VERSION 24.2 UPDATE
OVERVIEW AND GENERAL CHANGES
This update contains important fixes and enhancements in many areas across FTM 2019, including sync with Ancestry and FamilySearch browsing. In addition to bug fixes, we've added a new Managing Relationships Tool that allows you to edit multiple relationships easily.
The 24.2 update also includes new key bug fixes and all of the many features and fixes that were released in the 24.1 update. If you're not already familiar with what was new in the 24.1 update, please click here for full details.
MANAGING RELATIONSHIPS TOOL
This new editing tool completes the set of other long-standing functions for managing facts, historical events, sources, and repositories. It makes it easy to find, for example, couples with a Marriage fact whose relationship is marked as Unknown, and bulk change all these relationships to Spouse.
VERSION 24.2 - WINDOWS
ANCESTRY
- Unknown relationships. We've fixed a problem where some trees could sync relationships from Ancestry as "Unknown" type instead of "Spouse".
- More reliable sync with Ancestry. The most frequently reported sync interruption errors have been fixed.
- Gray Ancestry hints. The issue when some Ancestry hints appear as gray leaves instead of green ones while FTM 2019 is online should no longer appear.
FAMILYSEARCH
- FamilySearch in Web Search workspace. FamilySearch web pages can once again be opened in FTM 2019's Web Search workspace. A newer version of the CEF web framework has been implemented to accommodate a security upgrade made by FamilySearch that had recently blocked this functionality.
PEOPLE WORKSPACE
- Lifespan in Index of Individuals. Lifespan now correctly displays Birth/Death dates in the Index of Individuals.
- Tree Pedigree view. Person to whom a parent is being attached remains in focus so they are visible on the Pedigree screen.
PUBLISH WORKSPACE
- Export from chart. Descendant Chart now exports with the correct list of people when using a Smart Filter.
- Books. Individuals from Descendant Report and LDS Ordinance Summary are now listed correctly on the Index page. Descendant Report and LDS Ordinance Summary are also correctly presented in Books.
PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY
- Color coding performance improved in large trees. The process of applying color coding to larger trees, including when using Smart Filters, has been optimized to avoid hangs and delays. Additionally, navigating with large color-coded trees in the People workspace is much faster now.
- Smart Filters. Issue when Smart Filters with "Any Fact Date/Place/Description" criteria would become broken upon editing has been fixed. Also, performance when entering information in Fact Date/Place fields for persons included in Smart Filters has been enhanced.
- Reliability of Find Missing Media improved. Fixed a rare issue with certain trees where the Find Missing Media process failed silently.
- Reports hanging upon preparation. Reports in some small and mid-size trees would hang upon preparation, which has been fixed.
- Export charts to PDF more stable. Fixed an issue where sometimes, even with small trees, the main application window would become inoperable when exporting charts.
- Smart Stories stability improved. Fixed an issue found so far in a single user tree in which the application crashed when creating a Smart Story.
- Compacting and tree size. Fixed a rare case when trees grew in size after compacting.
OTHER FIXES
- No Internet connection for Hyper-V users. Corresponding tweaks made for Hyper-V users to stop receiving no connection error.
VERSION 24.2.1 - WINDOWS-ONLY
This update fixes a rare but important issue for a small number of users, so the application will no longer unexpectedly quit while using Web Search or Ancestry login.
VERSION 24.2 - MAC
ANCESTRY
- Unknown relationships. We've fixed a problem where some trees could sync relationships from Ancestry as "Unknown" type instead of "Spouse".
- More reliable sync with Ancestry. The most frequently reported sync interruption errors have been fixed.
- Issue with Sync not being triggered when a media with capital letters in file extension are present has been resolved as well.
PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY
- Faster Smart Filters. Entering information in Fact Date/Place fields for persons included in Smart Filters is now performed without hangs and interruptions.
- Greater stability. Specific issues that could potentially cause crashes with some trees have been resolved in many areas across Family Tree Maker.
- Tree file size increase. Tree file size should not increase for no reason any more.
OTHER FIXES
- PDF thumbnails. Thumbnails for PDF files in the Media collection are now shown correctly.
- Find Source Citation dialog. Issue when the Existing Source Citation text was not fully visible has been fixed.
- Smart Story. Discarded Smart Story is no longer used for other persons when inserting a Smart Story.
- Notes formatting preserved. Fixed an issue where Bold text formatting in Notes sometimes was lost when opening a tree on Mac FTM 2019 from a Windows FTM 2019 backup.
