How do I upload my tree from Family Tree Maker 2017 or Family Tree Maker 2019 for Windows to Ancestry?
Family Tree Maker 2017 and Family Tree Maker 2019 for Windows allow you to upload your tree file directly to Ancestry, link your local and online tree, and keep them synced.
1. With the tree you want to upload to Ancestry open, click the three-leaf Ancestry sync icon in the upper-right corner of the application window and choose Upload to Ancestry from the drop-down list.
2. The Upload FTM Tree to Ancestry dialog appears. Set the options you want:
- In the New Ancestry Tree field you can leave the existing tree name or enter a new one.
- By default, changes made in a tree are synced manually. If you want to have your tree synced automatically every time you open or close it, select the Automatically button.
- Use the Upload this Tree as option to decide whether your online tree will be public or private. By default, the Private button is selected. If you want your tree to be publicly viewable, click the Public button.
- Note: You can switch your online tree from public to private, or private to public, at any time on Ancestry.com.
- The Exclude this tree from Ancestry search index checkbox becomes available if you have selected the Private option above it. Select this option if you don't want your tree to appear in search results on Ancestry or third-party search engines such as Google.
3. When you have finished setting the options, click Upload. Uploading will begin. The Uploading in background message will appear to tell you that your tree has started uploading. Click OK.
A progress bar in the upper-right corner of the application window shows the status of the upload.
4. When uploading is complete, a Sync State pop-up message appears on the Ancestry sync icon. You can now use the sync icon to sync your tree and to change sync options.
